Coffee Hour on Sundays – right after the 9:30 service – is an institution at St. Luke’s. It takes place in Greene Hall and is hosted by a different family each week. It’s very easy – full instructions come with your involvement!! You just need to get to the church about 20 minutes or so before the service begins to set up and start the coffee – we have a really easy coffee system at your disposal. Everything is supplied except 1 gallon of milk which you should bring with you. Cookies/goodies are your choice. So, please consider helping us connect with each other on Sunday mornings – coffee hour is so important to the life of our parish family.
If you are interested, please sign up on the bulletin board or on Signup Genius. Or contact Doris Gallup @ [email protected]
The Parish Picnic takes place on one of the last Sundays in June, following the 9:30 service. It is very much a family affair at a local farm – boating on the lake, rides on the hay cart …. and an excellent lunch.
8 @ 8 is, on the one hand, a dining adventure, and on the other hand, the best way anyone has ever invented of getting to know your fellow parishioners. If you sign up for it, it will involve you in three monthly dinner parties, between February and May. Each month, the party is held at a different home with different diners. New members to 8 @ 8 will not be asked to host. There are approximately 8 diners and the dinners begin at approximately 8 PM (more often 6:30 or 7:00, to be honest). Each couple or individual brings a dish, with the host providing the entrée and beverages, so it’s a fun and easy way to entertain. It is open to every adult member of the parish – singles as well as couples.
When sign-up is complete, you will receive a schedule via email with names and phone numbers of your dining partners, and you will be contacted by your host to coordinate date and food.
Sign up when the time comes. It’s always worth it!
Lobsterfest
For more than quarter of a century, the Order of the Claw has issued its invitation to St. Luke’s parishioners to come to Greene Hall on a Saturday evening around the beginning of March for the annual Lobsterfest. Tickets cover a whole lobster or a half chicken, steamed clams, homemade chowder and beverages, including beer and wine. The event is sponsored by the Parish Life Guild and, like so many St. Luke’s fellowship evenings, it depends on volunteers. No experience necessary. From cooking lobster and clams to helping set-up, it’s a fun evening for volunteers and guests alike.
Christmas Party
The Parish Christmas Party traditionally takes place at the home of a parish family on a Sunday evening in the middle of December – normally immediately following the Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols, which is one of the showpieces of Christmas at St. Luke’s.
The St. Luke’s Book Club has been in existence since 1999. The reading list has ranged from classics like War and Peace and The Scarlet Letter, to memoirs, fantasies, biographies, histories and current best sellers, fiction and non-fiction. The nearly 20 members, including both St. Luke’s parishioners and other community members, meet on the first Thursday of each month from 7:15 pm to 8:30 pm, beginning in September and continuing through May (excluding December). The discussion of the monthly book selection is facilitated by one member who researches the author and provides other relevant information regarding religious, political, social or cultural themes.
The Book Club is a congenial group that welcomes new members.
