As many of you know Nourish.NJ ( formerly The Community Soup Kitchen of Morristown) has annually organized a hunger walk through Morristown.

The purpose of the walk is twofold; 1. to raise awareness of the food and housing insecurity in our area, and, 2. to raise money to help those in need.

The Hunger Walk is usually held around this time of year, BUT as we all know NOTHING is “ usual”  this year. However the need to build awareness about the issues of hunger and poverty in our area is increasing. Nourish.NJ is now feeding three times as many people as it did before the pandemic.

To fill the void, we are organizing our own St. Luke’s Hunger Walk to show our continuing support of Nourish. NJ. Our goal is to raise $2,028 which is approximately what it costs Nourish.NJ to provide over 330 meals a day to those impacted by food insecurity. It’s important to remember that Nourish.NJ does this every day, 365 days a year and has not missed a day since their beginning in 1985!

Throughout Nourish.NJ’s existence St. Luke’s has been a vital partner by cooking and serving meals, contributing money through our PLG efforts, and several parishioners playing significant leadership roles . Now more than ever our continued support is needed.

HOW YOU CAN HELP: Our St. Luke’s Hunger Walk will be on Sunday Oct. 18 from 11:15 AM to 4:15 PM around our beautiful church block. (A distance of about 2/10 of a mile.) Just like the Nourish.NJ walk we’re asking you to get pledges from people to support you on the number of laps you walk or any contribution they want to make. You can sign up to walk anytime that fits your schedule between 11:15 AM and 4:15 PM . We intend to make this more than just a fundraiser… but also a parish community event! The MORE walkers, the BETTER! But, even if you can’t walk on the 18th, please consider donating to this important cause.

That said we will need to adhere to the St. Luke’s COVID-19 procedures keeping all participants safe.

Please sign up  and join us in yet another way that says “This is how we love one another”.
